KDX was established in 1999 by Kelli Hawkins Derrick.
Our very first spring performance featured a total of 8 dancers.
In 2010, KDX opened one of the largest studios in the Hampton Roads area. and housed over 450 students.
In 2014, the co-owner and Mrs. Kellis husband, Jonathan, passed away from a very tough battle with cancer. Jonathan was also the father to 3 year old, Cameron and 7 year old, Cayden.
in 2015, KDX moved to Western Branch and began the process of redesigning the future of the studio, staff, and students of KDX.
in 2019, KDX continues to maintain its stellar reputation, while focusing on the quality of each of our dancers. We are committed to providing each of our students with a quality dance education.
Kelli and her staff have been sharing their love of the arts with generations of accomplished dancers for over 20 years now!
KDX dancers, paired with Art Thru Muvment, performed as the Opening act for Z104 Shaggfest and most recently performed at the Richmond Raceway. Our dancers have been accepted into the Governors School for the Arts, VCU Dance Dept, Longwood Dance, and more. They have also worked for organizations such as Busch Gardens and the NFL.
At Kelli's Dance Explosion, we believe in quality, not quantity. We are ready to prepare your dancer for the future while building grace, poise, discipline, and respect.
KDX was awarded "Top 10 Small Businesses to Watch in Hampton Roads" by the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and voted "Best Dance Studio" in Hampton Roads" in 2010
KDX has a long history of involvement in local communities. We are committed to positively contributing to Toys for Tots and many other charitable organizations.
